BRIGAU BACH PROJECT

Brigau Bach is a new project that will operate across five areas of Gwynedd to understand and nurture the relationship that children under five years old and their families/carers have with nature, and in doing so strengthen wellbeing and a sense of belonging to the land and Welsh identity within our communities.

The core project partners are Y Dref Werdd, Partneriaeth Ogwen, Yr Orsaf, Partneriaeth Dyffryn Peris, Oriel Plas Glyn-y-Weddw and Datblygiadau Egni Gwledig. We will also work collaboratively with the Early Years Service, CARN, local nursery groups and Ti a Fi groups, as well as other partner organisations.

Between now and July, each partner will engage with their communities, particularly children under five and their carers/families, to better understand their relationship with nature. This will include hosting a series of Brigau Bach events, visiting groups for children under five, and holding direct conversations.

To support this consultation process, we have developed a specialist participation toolkit that will help facilitate listening to and identifying the aspirations of children under five. A standard questionnaire has also been created, along with a budget to employ local artists to support the consultation phase.

Our initial vision in developing the Brigau Bach project is to:

*Strengthen the sense of belonging within our Welsh-speaking communities.

*Enhance wellbeing and support vulnerable families.

*Develop a lifelong relationship with nature.

Together, the next three months will provide an opportunity for us to listen and understand what is needed, as well as the unique context of each area. It will be a chance to engage with stakeholders and meet a wide range of children and families/carers within our communities.

Everything we learn will help inform a strong application on behalf of our communities to the National Lottery’s Nature Nurture Fund.
