How do we relate to the ancient woodlands around us? How do trees communicate, survive, and coexist—and what can they teach us about ourselves?
We invite you to find out at Plas Glyn-y-Weddw during a unique pair of bilingual creative writing workshops. Led by the highly acclaimed local writer, poet, and translator Sian Northey, these sessions offer a peaceful space to slow down, reflect, and put pen to paper in either Welsh or English.
The workshops are designed in direct response to our current exhibition, Coed Coexist —"a project that draws our attention to woodland ecosystems while connecting community, creativity and environmental stewardship." Through diverse artistic mediums, this exhibition challenges us to think about our deep, interconnected relationship with nature. We will spend time immersing ourselves in the gallery spaces, absorbing the visual art, and translating those vivid sights, textures, and concepts into original written words.
Please note that you do not need any previous creative writing experience to attend. Whether you already write every day or haven't picked up a creative pen since school, Sian’s gentle and inspiring approach will help you unlock your voice. These workshops are open to anyone aged 16 and over.
These sessions are fully bilingual and welcoming to everyone. Whether you wish to write entirely in Welsh, entirely in English, or experiment with both, Sian will guide you through tailored prompts. The workshop is perfect for all fluencies, including fluent speakers, those looking to practice their Welsh, and English speakers.
What to Expect
Over the course of two interconnected sessions, Sian will guide you through a series of relaxed, structured prompts and exercises. You will:
*Explore the gallery to gather raw sensory details and emotional reactions.
*Learn techniques for shaping those thoughts into structured poetry or descriptive prose.
*Share your work and ideas in a warm, welcoming, and non-judgmental environment.
Note:
*Suitable for those 16+ age.
*No need to bring anything other than your imagination.
