Yr Oriel Fyw

We’re delighted to introduce you to Yr Oriel Fyw – a living gallery where people, trees, and ideas grow side by side. Based in the grounds of Plas Glyn y Weddw, this space is designed to inspire learning, creativity, and a love for nature conservation. Whether you’re here to lend a hand, ask questions, or simply potter among the trees, you are part of the journey. No experience is needed – everyone belongs here.

Over time, this nursery will become much more than rows of young trees. We are shaping a vibrant social space with growing zones, gathering places, and quiet corners for reflection. It is a place to learn, to rest, and to reconnect with your own sense of wonder.

But alongside this welcoming spirit lies a serious purpose. Yr Oriel Fyw was created to support the restoration of Winllan, a storm-damaged ancient woodland, and now seeks to play a role in the revival of rare and resilient tree species on Llŷn. By rooting our work in science-led conservation and community involvement, we are tackling the challenges of climate change and biodiversity loss right here in our home landscape.

Here you may encounter:

  • Hands-on conservation – Seed collecting, propagation, planting, and habitat care.
  • Species revival projects – Aspen to Atlantic hazel and the diversity of our oaks.
  • Research and discovery – Soil science to genetics, making cutting-edge ideas accessible to all.
  • Creativity and culture – weaving Welsh mythology, art, and storytelling into the living fabric of our nursery.

When to Visit:

  • Open every Thursday and Sunday, 10am – 1pm.
  • Each Sunday session will also include a woodland school craft activity, through the autumn months. These simple, family-friendly workshops use natural materials to create a “craft of the week” – a way of bringing people together, celebrating the season, and letting creativity flourish outdoors.

Every small action matters. Whether you water a seedling, join a workshop, share your knowledge, or simply spend a quiet moment among the plants, you are contributing to something bigger – a path to co-existence, as nature intends. So, breathe deeply this is a place to reconnect, to re-imagine, and to help build a future of compassion, natural wealth and wonder.

Yr Oriel Fyw is proudly located at Oriel Plas Glyn y Weddw and is part-funded by the Gwynedd Local Nature Partnership (LNP) and GwyrddNi, who share our vision of bringing people and nature together for a better future.
