The Wonder of Winllan
🕥 10:30 – 12:30
We are delighted to welcome you to the opening of Yr Oriel Fyw (The Living Gallery) – a new creative space dedicated to connecting people with the biodiversity, cultural heritage, and future of Winllan woodland.
Yr Oriel Fyw is part of the Winllan Woodland Restoration Project, which aims to restore 14 acres of native woodland at Plas Glyn-y-Weddw after the devastation of Storm Darragh. Through art, storytelling, community workshops, and hands-on activities, the Living Gallery will act as a cultural lens on this vital ecological work – translating restoration into inspiring, accessible experiences for everyone.
The Wonder of Winllan: Opening Day
Our first event will invite visitors of all ages to step into the story of Winllan and discover both its challenges and its opportunities. The programme will include:
- An introduction to the Winllan woodland – its history, the damage caused by the storm, and the vision for a resilient, biodiverse future.
- Tree discovery walks – learn about the native species that make up our woodland ecosystem.
- Seed-planting activity – collect acorns, plant them in our new community tree nursery, and add your name. In time, your seedling will be planted back into the woodland, becoming a living part of Winllan’s future.
This is a chance to experience how culture and ecology come together – through stories, art, and practical action – to care for the land and inspire future generations.
