Background

Plas Glyn-y-Weddw, situated in Llanbedrog on the scenic Llŷn Peninsula, is an ideal venue to inspire both artists and audiences. As one of Wales' oldest galleries housed in a historic Victorian Gothic mansion, the venue offers year-round free entry and hosts a dynamic programme of contemporary and historical art exhibitions. Beyond its captivating architecture and serene woodland surroundings, including part of the Wales Coastal Path, PGyW remains committed to promoting Welsh artists and ensuring the arts are accessible and enriching for all.

FFYNNU is a 12-month pilot residency and engagement programme based at Plas Glyn-y-Weddw (PGyW) and across Pen Llŷn, that will explore how artists and communities can work together to understand and respond to climate change and climate justice in a rural and coastal context. 

Developed in partnership with Ecoamgueddfa Llŷn and funded by the Arts Council of Wales, FFYNNU offers the opportunity for Plas Glyn-y-Weddw and other sites across Pen Llŷn to be places for creative exploration, reflection and having a role in climate action.

 

Role Description

The FFYNNU Residency Support Programme Coordinator plays supporting role to both Plas Glyn-y-Weddw’s Curator and Engagement Officer as well as the wider Plas Glyn-y-Weddw team in providing administrative, logistical, pastoral and project management support to ensure the successful delivery of FFYNNU. This role is vital in helping to coordinate the different elements, liaising with artists, partners, mentors, audiences and participants.

The Coordinator will be based predominantly at Plas Glyn-y-Weddw but they may need to travel to other projects sites and accompany trips. It is possible that some of the work can be undertaken remotely.

This position is suited for a detail-oriented and proactive individual passionate about supporting inclusivity within the arts and wider cultural projects.

 

Key Responsibilities

Project Coordination and Administration

  • Assist with planning, recruitment, scheduling and delivering four artist residencies, associated networking trips and mentoring opportunities
  • Plan and attend to pastoral considerations associated with each artist residency
  • Support with overall project administration, application processes, scheduling, contracts etc
  • Support the coordination of engagement and participation activity with focus groups alongside a wider public programme
  • Assist in the documentation and evaluation of activity through photography, film, feedback etc

Communication 

  • Assist with communication between Plas Glyn-y-Weddw staff, artists, event facilitators, community venues, stakeholders and project evaluator.
  • Assist with project updates, promotional materials  and reports.
  • Support audience engagement activities and event promotion in collaboration with the marketing team.

 

Person Specification (Skills and Competencies)

Essential Skills

  • Excellent organisational and administrative skills tailored to managing creative projects including excellent time management, project coordination, task prioritisation, strategic planning and workflow management
  • An efficient and clear communicator, both written and verbal, with a sensitivity to artistic collaboration
  • Able to manage multiple tasks while maintaining attention to detail
  • Proficient in project management tools and office software (e.g., Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, Dropbox)
  • Some understanding of arts project funding structures and reporting requirements
  • Has full driving licence and access to a vehicle

Desirable Skills

  • Fluent in Welsh (spoken and /or written)
  • Knowledge and experience working with individuals and groups with protected characteristics.
  • Experience working in an arts or cultural organisation

Qualifications and Experience

  • Education: A degree or diploma in arts administration, project management or a related field is preferred but not essential
  • Experience: Prior experience in an arts project support role, cultural event management, or similar environments.
