Elin Gruffydd is a film photographer from Pen Llŷn. Her work, often steeped in nature, explores the themes of simple beauty, intimacy and femininity. Elin aims to capture quiet moments in dreamy spaces, through the nostalgic lens of film, inspired by the sea and the mountains, and everything in between.
‘Sweet Melancholy’ is a photography project intertwining Elin’s film photography with the words of the artist Brenda Chamberlain, in a visual exploration of Ynys Enlli and the Greek island Hydra. Over the past year, Elin has immersed herself in Brenda Chamberlain’s work, both art and literature, and in doing so has discovered the many threads that intertwine their lives and paths, leading to this broad research of island life, art, literature, mythology and photography.
