Elin Huws from Llanbedrog graduated from Edinburgh College of Art in 1999 with a first class degree in Tapestry. Having won the Young Scholarship prize at the National Eisteddfod of Wales in 1999, she returned to study for her masters degree at the same university in 2001.
Having returned to North Wales, she creates tapestry weavings inspired from the landscapes, seascapes and poetry of Wales. Using the inherent qualities of yarns, their richness and diversity, I create tapestry weavings that emphasise the relationships of depth and tone, stillness and movement. Exploring ideas through drawing and painting, the work is metaphorical rather than being a direct translation of such scenes. I play with memory and inner feelings towards a place. Elin has exhibited in Argentina, Japan, Hungary, Germany, Edinburgh and London, she also exhibits regularly in Wales.
