Esther Stubbs is primarily a landscape painter working in both oil and watercolour. She has been inspired to paint since childhood, her mother, also a painter, encouraged the whole family to appreciate and enjoy creative skills.
For many years, she taught and coordinated art as a profession, using her spare time to paint and exhibit work in West Sussex, Essex and the Channel Islands. She took early retirement from teaching in 2015 and moved to the Llŷn Peninsula, to devote more time to her passion for painting. She lives near Aberdaron and all her current work is inspired by the land and seascapes of Llŷn, as well as the mountains of Snowdonia. Through her painting, she aims to capture the beauty and spirit of the landscape, using photographs and sketches, made on frequent walks in the area, to inform the compositions. Her work is usually created in her studio, an old static caravan overlooking neighbouring farmland and cliffs to the Irish Sea.
She is a member of the Arlunwyr Sarn Artists and exhibits her work annually in the Gwyl Gelf Llŷn Arts Festival.
