Pwllheli born and bred, Gwilym Roberts is a well known artist on the Llŷn Peninsula. He has a passion for steam locomotives stemming from the 10 years he spent as a stoker and driver on the steam locomotives that ran out of Pwllheli as far afield as Chester, servicing the bustling Butlins Holiday Camp at Afonwen.
Gwilym attended the Slade Arts College in London during the 1950's. He later spent time in the merchant navy and traveled the world before returning to the Llŷn Peninsula and his home town Pwllheli. Although officially an octogenarian Gwilym keeps very active and paints for pleasure.
