My name is Cian Parry Owen, I’m a former pupil of Ysgol Botwnnog. I was brought up on a farm in Tudweiliog and I now spend my time between Tudweiliog and Rhosfawr.
I have thoroughly enjoyed art since a very young age and have painted regularly all my life. I obtained a degree in fine art at Cardiff.
For this exhibition, I have concentrated on the black and white patterns that have been influenced by my interest in Japanese culture. The influence of ‘Irezumi Tatoos’, and the style of ‘yakuzas’ are very strong in my work. My interest in Japan was strengthened by Miss Elin Huws when I was one of her pupils and my piece of work ‘The Great Wave of Kangawa’ by Hokusai is one of my favourites.
The series ‘Linked Thoughts’ convey the way that my thoughts spread over the paper, freely with no-end.
I also exhibit two pieces of work in my style of using stickmen – these two drawings remind us of the area and the school that I was so lucky to attend.
