Wynne Melville Jones, often known as Wyn Mel, a former art student, has returned to the paintbrush after a gap of 40 years spent in the demanding world of public relations and marketing.
The former student of Swansea College of Art and Trinity College Carmarthen has, on retirement, returned to his main interest -visual art, and gets a thrill out of turning ideas and concepts into artwork. Over a period of 6 years he has produced over 300 pieces of art.
On leaving college he worked for 10 years for the Urdd youth movement and is Honorary President for life of the organisation. He then moved on to set up Wales’s first bilingual PR agency, a venture he ran successfully for 30 years. He is also one of the founders of the Welsh weekly current affairs magazine Golwg.
He lives and works from his home in the village of Llandre or Llanfihangel Genau’r Glyn in north Ceredigion and is highly active in the community. Many of his paintings draw on his deep roots and background in West Wales and his sense of responsibility for all things Welsh
His paintings can be seen in many places in Wales but some travelled to various corners of the earth. Former US President Jimmy Carter has one of his paintings and his interpretation of the Elvis Rock on Pumlumon is at the Elvis Presley museum at Graceland, Tennessee.
He is an ideas man and describes each of his paintings as another idea.
