Originally from Bangor, Huw now lives at Rhoscolyn on Anglesey. He is well-known for his paintings of Anglesey, but for this special exhibition he has turned his sights towards Llŷn with paintings of the area’s coast, hills and traditional buildings.
His subject matter of coast, interior and mountains reflect the variety of the area’s landscape. He also records the area’s man-made environment from farms and cottages to town and cityscapes.
His work involves drawing and painting on the spot to capture the light and atmosphere of the moment and sustained engagement with the process of painting in the studio. He uses colour, tone, form, space and texture to create powerful, spiritual works of art which convey a sense of place.
