Gwilym Roberts was born, bred and educated in Pwllheli.
After leaving school the artist worked as a banker on a steam locomotives and interest in steam trains has never waned. He is a member of the ‘Guild of Railway Artist’ who have exhibited many of his paintings over the years.
Following his period on the trains, the artist spent a short time at sea before being accepted to study at the Chelsea Art School, where he spent two years.
To commemorate 100 years since her death, Gwilym Roberts painted a portrait of Famous Welsh Hymn writer Ann Griffiths. The work was presented to Pendref Chapel in Llanfyllin.
He has a deep-rooted interest in local history, depicting scenes of ‘old Pwllheli’ and of the Llŷn Peninsula.
