Eleri Mills was born in Wales, in 1955. Growing up in the family farm she spent her time helping her father with the animals, while her mother instilled in her the myths and traditions of ‘bardic’ Wales. She went to Manchester to do a BA (Hons) in Art and Design. This time in Manchester gave her a new perspective and deeper understanding of the history of Wales, which clearly inspired her work from then on. By the time she returned to Llangadfan ten years later, she was totally committed to communicating the love of her land in her paintings. She has since divided her time between the demands of the farm, family and painting.
Eleri’r work is unique. She is a master at creating both hand stitched pieces and mixed media paintings, painstakingly building up the image, always of Wales, without any thought of time. In her work, she moves freely from medium to medium, immersing herself in the different qualities of the stitched and drawn line. Always underlying her work is the love of her ancestral landscape.
Eleri is an elected member of the royal Cambrian Academy and has been exhibited in both the UK and the US. She has work in many public collections.
