Artist’s Statement

Born in 1936, in Colwyn Bay where he still resides today, Tom Jones has extensive experience in the Art world, having his first exhibition at the RCA at the young age of 22.

After attending Liverpool University he started his career as an Architect until his retirement in 1992. In 1996 he became an elected member of the RCA, and is now the treasurer.

Although he trained and worked as an Architect through most of his working life; he continued to produce artwork. He was highly commended in the Caernarfon National Eisteddfod in 1959, but it wasn’t until the 90’s that he started to exhibit regularly over Wales and England. Having mixed exhibitions in such locations as the Isle of Man, Liverpool, Oriel Plas Glyn-y-Weddw, Abergele and Bangor, and one-man shows in Llandudno and Conwy.

“Having trained and practised as an architect, it is natural that the built environment should figure large in my output of drawings, paintings and etchings. I am fascinated by the patterns created by buildings (mostly) and of the World around me, and through my work, hopefully, help others to see it as I do.”
