Born in Wrexham, Denbighshire in 1961. From 1980-1986 he studied three dimensional design – jewellery and Fine Art at Clwyd College of Art and Design. For the next 10 years, he ran his own business as a jeweller/goldsmith, exhibiting both in the UK and Europe, with a client base as widespread as America and Australia.
Since moving to North West Wales 12 years ago, his creative expression has metamorphosed from jeweller to sculptor, with the materials he used moving from metals, to wood and stone.
He lives outside the village of Tanygrisiau, near Blaenau Ffestiniog. After a period of working both for and with the sculptor David Nash RA, he continues to work wood with a chainsaw. Cutting the wood whilst it is still ‘green’ allows for a work to develop further, after the form has been carved.
“A sense of enquiry and scientific exploration of the materials I work with, has for me, always been a part of the creative process. This, allied with a creative stimulus inspired by a deep connection with the environment, has provided the drive behind my work.”
