Artist: Howard Coles

Artist’s Statement

Howard Coles was born in Cardiff and studied sculpture at the city’s College of Art .Formerly head of Art & Design at Hope University, Liverpool he now resides in Llyn- an area which has been central to his exhibition work in printmaking and painting.

An academician of the Royal Cambrian Academy, an impulse to work with the coastal landscape of Wales is now ingrained – not from holding a mirror to the landscape but as a reaction to the first telling observations of what is seen and felt.

Underlying the appearance of what is observed lies the bones of his work – the emotional and technical framework that holds each painting together.

Previous one man shows include Singapore in the early 1960’s, London, Edinburgh,.Pembroke and Oriel Mon, whilst he is a gallery artist at the Albany Gallery, Cardiff, View 2 Gallery, Liverpool, Birties Gallery, Worcester as well as Oriel Plas Glyn y Weddw.
