Kim Atkinson lived on the island of Bardsey for the first seven years of her life and again for ten years in the 1980s and '90s. Her work has been exhibited all over Wales and England and her artistic reputation has brought her invitations to work in many parts of the world, including Australia and Poland.

An exhibition of an arts book and related paintings by Noëlle Griffiths and Kim Atkinson will be a part of the current exhibition here at the Plas from September 12th to October 31st, 2010.

Noëlle Griffiths and Kim Atkinson have collaborated for the past 18 months on making a large format art book.

The book is an abstracted response to the bird song heard in North Wales during the four seasons.

This collaboration has brought together Kim's knowledge and love of birds, and Noëlle's experience and passion for making artists' books.

Each season, each artist made drawing/painting in the landscape at two places near where they each live: Tan y Bwlch near Maentwrog and Pen Llŷn near Aberdaron. These two very different locations provided very different landscapes, habitat and birds.

'Bird Song' is a large long book, 24 x 100 cm closed, and is printed in an edition of ten copies. Each book is unique, containing eight relief and monoprints using oil based ink along with digital archival ink text and images. A copy of 'Bird Song' can be handled at the exhibition. There are 8 copies also available for purchase.
