Original Anonymous CARD ART APPEAL

Cerdlun

July 2008

  • "Cerdlun" is a word we have coined to blend the Welsh ideas for "postcard" and "picture".
  • Cerdlun will be a large trumpeted exhibition/sale of original work, donated by artists, celebrities and well wishers from many countries. The pictures will be of A5 or postcard size, on a subject and in a medium of the artists’ choice—a painting, textile, drawing, cartoon, doodle or whatever.
  • Each piece is signed, dated and titled on the back only, encouraging buyers to use their skill, personal taste and judgement rather than a gallery label to guide their choice from, hopefully 1000 originals on display.
  • A list of contributing artists will be displayed and publicised in advance and a fresh selection of work received will be posted on this site monthly through April-August.
  • The first work will be offered for sale on Saturday evening the 26th of July 2008. A limited number of 200 tickets will be printed for the evening so the sooner you secure yours the better!. The sale will kick-off with a limited auction of a maximum 12 cards, just to set the mood. The entrance fee for the Saturday evening is £10. *
  • Each piece of work will sell at one price, £25.

* We will be showing and selling all donated work here at Oriel Plas Glyn Y Weddw, starting with a reception with wine, canapés and a limited auction on Saturday evening, 26 July 2008. No work will be removed until the 29 July, so that everyone has a chance to see the whole exhibition intact. Thereafter, any unsold work will be placed in the gallery shop for sale, with its provenance still protected until purchase. The gallery’s well-regarded, licensed tearoom will be open throughout, so that visitors can satisfy more than their artistic tastes!

A document, explaining the CERDLUN appeal in detail, in English or Welsh, can be sent to you as an email attachment, should you wish to contribute or attend in person.
