Concert featuring Ger Wolfe, Meinir Gwilym, Noeleen ni Cholla, Stephen Rooney and Deirdre Murray. Tickets cost £10 (£5 concession) and are available from the Gallery. The evening will start at 7.30pm.

Over the years Cork-born singer-songwriter Ger Wolfe has worked hard at establishing his reputation as one of our finest songwriters with the albums-“Word and Rhyme” (1998), “Ragged Ground” (2000), “Heaven Paints her Holy Mantle Blue” (2002) and “The Velvet Earth” (2006) and most recently “Fréamh:Root ”(2011). This, while also touring extensively in Ireland as both a solo artist and with his band ‘The New Skylarks’. He has appeared on many radio and TV shows over the years. His songs are widely admired and have been covered by the likes of Karan Casey, Danú, North Cregg and Sharon Shannon. His much loved ode to childhood ‘The Curra Road’ has been hailed as a ‘folk classic’, garnering much radio play at home and abroad.

Ger has spent most of 2011 touring to promote “Fréamh:Root” , his first bi-lingual album.  As a songwriter he was in 2009 employed as artist-in-residence in the Múscraí Gaeltacht in North West Cork with a project called “O Bhéal guth béal”. Over the months of spring Ger met with the older members of the community and composed new songs and tunes based on their experiences and life-stories. Some of this new body of work is presented on this latest release where Ger is ably accompanied by a new quartet of musicians –Richard Lucey (button accordion), Edel Sullivan (violin), Paul Frost (double bass) and Kevin Murphy (cello). The initial release of the album was followed by a nationwide tour which encompassed 14 venues and almost as many counties between April and May of this year. The tour was supported by the MUSIC NETWORK performance and touring award scheme.

Born and raised in the small village of Llangristiolus in the heart of the Isle of Anglesey (Ynys Môn) off the North Wales coast, singer-songwriter Meinir Gwilym has established herself as one of the best selling Welsh language artists ever.

Both Stephen Rooney and Deirdre Murray are well established musicians from the North of Ireland who both come from established musical families.  This banjo and guitar duo features a range of well rounded compositions that have been given a modern twist that will have your heart racing and your feet tapping!!   Together they have travelled throughout Europe and various parts of the world entertaining audiences and performing in festivals in Denmark, Slovenia, Finland, and Germany. Between them they have played alongside many high calibre musicians including Guidewires, The Dubliners and 4 Men and A Dog.  It is a rare treat to see these musicians gig together as Stephen also plays with the innovative young band 'Ciorras'.

Noeleen ni Cholla - this petite woman has a "big" voice with lots of range and emotion in her singing.
