In 2010 she won a placement with the Womens Art Association, where she embarked on a digital Masterclass, enabling her to develop her practice further by combining digital techniques with traditional methods of glass making. She won the student award at the Welsh Artist of the Year competition, 2011 and completed her MA with Distinction from the Welsh School of Architectural Glass, Swansea. Rhian has just completed a residency at the 54TH Venice Biennale in conjunction with the Wales Pavilion and funded by the Arts Council of Wales.

Glass, Light and Space

The work explores shadow, scale and the light captured within small glass house; a simple, geometrical shape and a universal symbol, with its diverse meanings of shelter, sanctuary, isolation, history, memories and dreams. The houses have been cast using the lost wax technique and cold worked to achieve different surfaces, highlighting various qualities of the material.
