My first encounter with clay just so happened to be my first day in college, I had just turned sixteen and devastated that the summer had ended. My first class ceramics! Billy was the name of the man that was about to change my life's dream of being an animator for Disney.

What do you know at sixteen? He came over and handed me this piece of wet mud as I called it. He simply said "Go with it", and that's what I've been doing, just going with it. Fast forward three years of college and one UCAS form and you have the University of Wales institute, Cardiff.

This is my education into ceramics; my degree taught me so much about ceramics, myself, creativity, people and passion. I love ceramics and I would say that the last six years have been amazing and I hope they continue with my personal journey continuing through clay.

Artist statement

My work is a reflection and reaction to the events of death and the journey of life. The subject of my work is the death of my mother and the result that has had on my life. I wanted to communicate my feelings about the responsibilities and adulthood that was thrust upon me at such a young age. Using animals as a metaphor in my work, I found objects then cast them and used them as a narrative. My work travels through scenes of a child transforming into an adult in unfortunate circumstances. The work looks into a child's and adult's account of loss, grief, denial, anger, love and freedom.
